Today, the nation marks Kashmir Solidarity Day, reaffirming its steadfast support for the Kashmiris’ rightful quest for self-determination, a principle upheld by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
This annual commemoration by the people and governments of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir underscores a collective pledge towards the liberation of Kashmir from Indian dominion, fostering a deep connection with the residents of India-held Jammu and Kashmir.
Nationwide Demonstrations and Leadership Statements
Across the nation, individuals from various sectors will engage in demonstrations and human chains, signalling a resolute encouragement to the Kashmiris in their prolonged freedom struggle. President Dr. Arif Alvi and caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar have each articulated unwavering solidarity with the Kashmir cause and its people through messages released on the eve of this significant day.
President Alvi emphasized the fundamental international law of self-determination, lamenting the Kashmiri’s inability to exercise this right. He highlighted the severe militarization and oppressive conditions faced by Kashmiris under Indian occupation.
Prime Minister Kakar criticized India’s actions on August 5, 2019, in Kashmir as a stark infringement of international law, including the UN Charter and the 4th Geneva Convention. He noted India’s attempts to change the demographic and political fabric of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) as illegal. The Prime Minister also honoured the enduring sacrifices of the Kashmiri people over 76 years.
