Reports suggest that OpenAI may develop an AI-powered search engine based on ChatGPT.
A forum post indicated that the product’s domain and SSL certificates had been established, signalling potential competition with major search engines like Google Search, Microsoft Bing, and Perplexity AI.
The information originated from a Y Combinator’s Hacker News post stating, “Search.chatgpt.com domain and SSL cert have been created.” The user, known as Adolf, has a history of sharing the news but not leaks, making the claim’s credibility uncertain.
Additionally, notable social media AI influencers have mentioned a ChatGPT-driven search engine. A tipster on X (formerly Twitter) hinted that the domain might go live on May 9.
Attempts to access search.chatgpt.com resulted in a “Not found” message. Since the subdomain is part of chatgpt.com, owned by OpenAI, further verification was impossible.
The concept of an AI search engine is not novel. Perplexity AI, launched in 2022, exemplifies this, using Microsoft Bing to index web content and respond to user queries with relevant information and website links. If confirmed, OpenAI’s search engine might operate similarly, enhancing the competitive landscape of AI-driven search solutions.
