India’s tech and artificial intelligence (AI) industry has grown exponentially, with AI developments increasingly evident in various sectors. The media industry, in particular, is experimenting with AI’s potential.
In a remarkable development, Odisha TV, an Odia-based news station, introduced its first AI news anchor, Lisa, an initiative they hope will “revolutionise” television broadcasting.
Lisa is touted to have multilingual capabilities and will present news primarily in Odia and English across OTV’s digital platforms. Odisha TV, introducing Lisa on their Twitter account, revealed that training Lisa to speak Odia fluently is an ongoing process, and they are committed to enhancing her proficiency in the language.
The Advent of AI Anchors in Indian Media
Lisa is not the only AI anchor making waves in Indian media. Another local channel, Power TV in Kannada, has also ventured into AI technology, introducing their AI presenter, Soundarya, who hosts her news show.
In her inaugural show, Soundarya acknowledged the profound influence of AI across various industries, including its breakthrough in the TV news industry. She identified herself as “South India’s first robotic anchor.”
Similarly, the India Today Group previously launched Sana, their AI news anchor. Sana is touted as a multilingual, tireless anchor representing AI’s potential in the broadcasting sector.
These AI developments signify a significant shift in how news is delivered, demonstrating the potential of AI technology to change the face of journalism. As more channels experiment with AI news anchors, the media landscape will likely transform dramatically, shaping the future of broadcast journalism.
