Pakistani weightlifter Nooh Dastgir Butt triumphed at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Classic and Equipped Championships in South Africa, securing a gold medal in the squat event on his international debut.
The recipient of the Pride of Performance Award and a Commonwealth Games gold medalist, Butt lifted an impressive 370 kilograms in his first-ever powerlifting competition in Sun City, South Africa. This victory marks him as Pakistan’s first gold medalist in the sport.
Butt shared his excitement on Instagram: “Won gold medal at Commonwealth Classic Powerlifting Championships 2024,” he posted, adding a challenge, “Stop me if you can, this Butt is not going to stop,” and expressing thanks to his supporters.
Butt is now preparing for the bench press and deadlift events, where he aims to clinch two additional gold medals and secure the overall championship in the 120kg+ category. His ambition is to win a total of four gold medals.
Originating from Gujranwala, a city in Pakistan known for producing prominent weightlifters and wrestlers, Butt has been training since he was 11 years old. By 18, he had already started distinguishing himself on the international stage.
