Instagram has launched a new feature that enables users to comment on Instagram stories, expanding interaction options beyond private messages.

Previously, feedback on stories was confined to private messages seen only by the poster. Now, comments are possible on stories between users who mutually follow each other, remaining visible for up to 24 hours.

Instagram spokesperson Emily Norfolk confirmed that users can enable or disable comments for each story. However, the fate of comments after a story expires remains uncertain.

This enhancement is part of Instagram’s ongoing efforts to boost engagement. The platform recently added ephemeral “notes” to grid posts and Reels, which vanish after three days.

Additionally, Instagram unveiled a new visual feature today where some post likes will manifest as floating hearts. This change aims to highlight interactions with friends, mirroring the style of disappearing notes.
