The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has recently announced new charges for domestic flight passengers. Effective January 15, each passenger on a domestic flight must pay an additional one hundred rupees. This new fee is part of revised aviation regulations.
Implementation and Purpose of the Charges
Previously, similar charges were levied under security fees. However, this new policy labels the fee as “airport charges.” Airlines are tasked with collecting these charges from passengers and transferring the funds to the CAA.
A CAA spokesperson confirmed the policy’s implementation, emphasizing the role of these charges in maintaining and enhancing airport facilities and services. The collected revenue is allocated for the upkeep and improvement of domestic airports, aiming to ensure a smooth and secure travel experience.
The explicit labelling of the fee as “airport charges” is a move towards greater transparency and clarity for passengers. They are advised to be aware of this change during the ticketing and boarding processes.
Addressing queries, the spokesperson mentioned that this initiative will improve the country’s aviation infrastructure. The funds will be used for modernizing airports, upgrading security, and enhancing passenger comfort.
