On Friday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) received an updated medical report about former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who plans to return to Pakistan on October 21.
In 2019, Nawaz travelled to London for medical treatment. The LHC initially permitted him to go overseas for a month, but this could be extended based on subsequent medical evaluations.
The report indicates that Nawaz Sharif still experiences “residual anginal symptoms,” necessitating “regular medical check-ups” in London and Pakistan. Professor Carlo Di Mario, a leading cardiologist at the Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals, endorsed this document, affiliated with Guy’s and St Thomas’ National Health Service Foundation Trust.
Initially, the medical team attempted medication, intensifying his antianginal treatment. However, due to deteriorating symptoms, an angioplasty was performed in November 2022 to address a blocked left circumflexed artery, as detailed in the report.
The doctor highlighted ongoing residual anginal symptoms and recommended consistent monitoring.
Notably, Nawaz Sharif, facing multiple cases by the National Accountability Bureau, such as Avenfield, Al-Azizia, Hill Metal, and the Flagship references, travelled to London in December 2019 for health reasons after securing permission from the LHC.
Sources indicate that Nawaz Sharif will travel back to Pakistan on October 21, making a brief stop at Abu Dhabi International Airport before heading to Lahore.
