The National Assembly on Friday passed the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2014.
The lower house approved the bill that incorporated recommendations proposed by the opposition in Senate.
The bill was tabled by Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Chaudhary Birjees Tahir.
The Anti-terrorism (Second Amendment) Bill, 2014, would be helpful in dealing with terrorism and supporters of terrorist organizations who are involved in their financing and money laundering inside the country.
The latest amendment emphasizes that Rangers should be given ‘investigation’ rights.
The amendment also makes it necessary for the security forces to seek permission from Grade-17 officer or magistrate before opening fire on the suspected terrorist.
Statements of the witnesses could be recorded on camera for their protection whereas suspects involved in anti-state activities, extortion or target killings could be kept under detention for 90 days, the draft states.
The bill has already been passed by the Senate.
