Mushahid Hussain Syed, a prominent Pakistani politician and journalist, claimed on the 92News program “Ho Kya Raha Hai” that Pakistan’s former military leadership had assured the United States of several critical policy shifts, including on Israel.
According to Syed, the past military commanders had committed to recognizing Israel, which would significantly shift Pakistan’s traditional foreign policy stance. Additionally, he claimed these assurances included a willingness to compromise on Pakistan’s missile program and to de-prioritize the Kashmir issue, which has been a longstanding point of contention between Pakistan and India.
Syed further claimed that these assurances were part of broader commitments to begin normalizing trade relations with India, suggesting a significant reorientation in regional relations.
If accurate, Syed’s revelation indicates the previous military command’s substantial yet controversial willingness to alter Pakistan’s strategic directions in exchange for aligning more closely with American geopolitical interests in the region. Syed’s assertions have stirred discussions and could have wide-reaching implications for domestic and international perceptions of Pakistan’s policy trajectories.
