Muhammad Ali Mirza, a prominent religious scholar, is criticised for his recent remarks about Imran Khan and for explicitly supporting the establishment. Mirza has openly opposed Khan in various issues, including the Cipher case and the events of May 9th.
A clip of Mirza has gone viral. In it, he suggests that stability in Pakistan will not be achievable if Imran Khan is released from jail, urging the public to understand the military’s constraints. Mirza’s comments have attracted considerable backlash.
Commenting on the situation, Basharat Raja recalled from Brigadier Retired Tirmizi’s book “Ehsas-e-Idara,” which mentions clerics being paid to call untimely prayers during political upheavals against Bhutto, emphasizing the misuse of religious figures in political conflicts.
Obaid Bhatti highlighted that Mirza had successfully engaged millions, especially youths, with discussions on monotheism and Hussainiyat. Bhatti shared a personal observation of a young man disputing with his father, a religious scholar, who disagreed with Mirza’s perspectives and methods.
Bhatti further criticized Mirza’s inability to reconcile his stringent views on monotheism with his current political stances, which he viewed as a significant moral and intellectual decline.
Naeem Bukhari condemned those who rationalized what he saw as injustices, comparing them to figures from the tragedy of Karbala who justified oppressive actions rather than standing with truth. Bukhari expressed disdain for such justifications.
Qasim Suri used irony to point out the inefficacy of mere academic knowledge in understanding true religious scholarship, suggesting that deep understanding requires more than superficial learning.
