Most rivers running in medium, low flood: FFC

Islamabad: The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that River Indus is flowing in medium Flood at Chashma and Low Flood at Kalabagh, while River Kabul is running in Low Flood in “Warsak-Nowshera Reach”.

According to daily FFC report, River Swat continues to flow in Low Flood at Charsadda Road Bridge. River Chenab is also at Low Flood Stage at Qadirabad. Other main rivers including Jhelum, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal.

The actual river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs are at elevations of 1515.50 feet and 1231.05 feet respectively, which are 34.50 feet and 10.95 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.

The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma and Mangla reservoirs is 11.220 MAF as compared to last year’s 7.087 MAF.

According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, Monday’s trough of Westerly Wave over Kashmir and adjoining areas has moved away Eastwards and a fresh trough of Westerly Wave lies over Northern Afghanistan. Seasonal Low continues to prevail over Northwestern Balochistan. Weak moist current is penetrating into southern Punjab upto 3000 feet.

As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, isolated thunderstorm with rain is expected over Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore Divisions) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Malakand and Hazara Divisions) including upper catchments of rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej during the next 24 hours.

Fairly widespread thunderstorm and rain of moderate to heavy falls and very heavy falls at isolated places may occur over Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore Divisions including upper catchments of Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej during the period July 17-18, 2015.

Significant rainfall events reported by Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours include; Malamjabba = 42 mm and Parachinar = 40 mm. – APP
