The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that Punjab’s monsoon season has begun. The region is projected to receive 30% more rainfall this year than in previous years.
Between 15 and 50mm of rainfall will occur in the first week of July. It could see 25 to 35mm the following week, with up to 25mm anticipated in the third week across upper and southern Punjab. The fourth week will likely experience the heaviest rainfall, with 50 to 70mm expected.
The PDMA has warned of possible flash floods in hill torrents and urban flooding, especially in southern Punjab. These conditions increase the risk of such events, highlighting the need for immediate preventive actions.
The Director General of PDMA stressed the importance of quickly clearing rivers and drainage systems to lessen the effects of the expected heavy rains.
A heavy downpour on Monday morning in Lahore cooled the city and lowered temperatures, particularly in areas like Gulberg, Jail Road, and Lawrence Road.
The city reported substantial rainfall, with Lakshmi Chowk receiving 105mm and Qurtaba Chowk receiving 102mm. The rain caused significant water accumulation in several low-lying areas, including Liberty Chowk, Qaddafi Stadium, and Hussain Chowk, as well as Garden Town, Wahdat Road, and MM Alam Road.
