Over the past 11 months, substantial fuel expenditures reported within various Pakistani government institutions have sparked scrutiny over fiscal management amid economic difficulties.
Duniya News Urdu has reported that the Prime Minister’s Office recorded a significant 69.2 million PKR in petrol expenses, while the Presidency accounted for 33.1 million PKR. Furthermore, the National Assembly Secretariat and Cabinet members reported fuel costs of 44 million PKR and 51.5 million PKR, respectively.
The government is considering implementing an 18% tax on petrol for the general public, purportedly due to fiscal necessities. The report has led to public concerns and debates about the justification of such high government fuel expenditures totalling 332.5 million PKR, especially in light of the proposed tax increase.
