Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz has launched the “CM Punjab Free Solar Panel Scheme,” a mega initiative to relieve high electricity costs and promote sustainable energy.
The free solar panels for 100,000 consumers across the province mark a substantial move towards utilizing renewable resources. Applications for the scheme began immediately and are accessible via SMS and online portals.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Nawaz emphasized the profound impact of this scheme, stating, “This initiative not only mitigates the financial burden of electricity but also advances our commitment to eco-friendly energy solutions.” She affirmed that public resources are being utilized to enhance public welfare, reflecting her administration’s dedication to serving the community’s needs.
The Provincial Energy Secretary detailed the project’s implementation phases at the event, revealing plans to install solar systems for households consuming up to 200 units monthly. Specifically, the scheme will provide:
- 550-watt solar systems for users of up to 100 units.
- 1100-watt systems for those consuming up to 200 units.
Experts praise the project’s potential to alleviate the energy crisis and reduce carbon emissions. They estimate it will cut carbon emissions by 57,000 tons annually across Punjab. Additionally, the initiative is likely to lessen the financial burden of electricity subsidies on the federal government, thereby enhancing economic stability.
