Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban has expressed interest in acquiring Fox News and Elon Musk’s social media platform X, though he admits lacking the necessary funds for such large-scale purchases.
In a recent Wired interview, the “Shark Tank” star discussed the difficulties of engaging the “Fox News generation.” Cuban mentioned, “If I had enough money, which I don’t, I’d buy [Fox News] in a heartbeat.” Despite his estimated net worth of $5.7 billion, Cuban outlined the financial impracticality of purchasing Rupert Murdoch’s network, with costs potentially soaring to $22 billion after a 50% premium and necessary changes.
Previously, Cuban introduced the term “Fox News generation” in a New York Times interview, expressing frustration over changing attitudes among his peers. Regarding X, Cubans see no practical reason for Musk to sell, despite their public disagreements on the platform’s algorithms, which Cubans argue favour right-leaning politics. Musk has countered, citing the platform’s “open source” algorithm that mirrors user interactions.
Cuban continued to voice his concerns over platform control and political biases in media during the Wired interview. The debate extends to workplace diversity, with Cuban advocating for recruiting undiscovered talent against Musk’s anti-diversity, equity, and inclusion stance.
Amid these media ambitions, Cuban also announced his departure from “Shark Tank” after 16 seasons, signalling a new direction in his prolific career.
