LinkedIn has quietly ceased displaying artificial intelligence (AI) prompts to its users, a feature previously prevalent among its Premium subscribers.
The prompts, which suggested AI-driven queries below each post, aimed to enhance user engagement with LinkedIn’s AI capabilities. Despite their initial intent, the visibility of these prompts has significantly decreased, and the company has confirmed the reduction, though it did not provide a specific reason for the change.
According to a Fast Company report, removing these AI suggestions does not stem from user backlash or negative feedback about the AI features. LinkedIn spokesperson Suzi Owens clarified that while the prompts are less frequent, members can still access AI-powered tools via the jobs home page for personalized advice on networking, job positioning, and company insights.
This scale-back occurs amidst broader scrutiny over LinkedIn’s data practices. Recent critiques focus on the platform’s use of user data to train its AI models, when users discovered a previously unannounced setting to disable data collection for AI training. Following user discoveries and subsequent backlash, LinkedIn updated its policies to better reflect its data collection practices.
