A video that surfaced on social media supports Pakistan’s assertion that factions within the Afghan Taliban are harbouring and assisting terrorists from the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in their assaults on Pakistani security forces.
The footage captured on a mobile phone shows an Afghan Taliban commander identified as Yahya, orchestrating a gathering of armed militants linked to the TTP’s Hafiz Gul Bahadur faction within a tent in Afghanistan’s Paktika province, Dangar Lgad area.
Yahya, addressing the militants in Pashto, declares their readiness to retaliate against Pakistan, detailing the weaponry for an upcoming attack, including rocket launchers, laser operators, and a sniper. He emphasizes adherence to the Amir al-Mu’minin’s commands, urging militants to ensure no injured are left behind during cross-border infiltration.
This video is pointed out by analysts as proof of the Afghan Taliban’s support for the TTP against Pakistani forces, highlighting the Afghan Interim government’s inability to curb terrorists’ cross-border activities. Despite Pakistan’s appeals to the Afghan government to deter such terrorism, efforts have been fruitless, threatening Pakistan’s security and violating international norms.
Following an attack by the Hafiz Gul Bahadur group on a North Waziristan check-post, Pakistan conducted an airstrike on the group’s Afghan bases, eliciting a stern warning of retaliation from the Afghan Taliban.
