Lahore traders have rejected the government’s proposal for the early closure of markets, terming it “economic murder.”
Lahore traders’ association interim president Haji Rahat Ali rejected the government’s plan to close markets early.
Early market closure is economic murder, said Haji Rahat Ali. However, he stated that they wouldn’t accept the economic murder of traders.
The acting president said inflation and soaring energy and fuel prices had hampered citizens.
A few days ago, the Lahore High Court (LHC) hinted at closing markets at 10 pm daily and on Sunday owing to smog.
Justice Shahid Karim ordered DC Lahore to produce a report after consulting with traders.
The LHC judge granted the directives after hearing petitions to limit smog, reduce pollution, and stop groundwater waste.
The responsible government employees told the court that private and government schools are closed for three days, and private workplaces and sub-offices are closed two days a week.
