Lahore witnessed a historic deluge on Thursday, with 350 millimetres of rain in three hours, surpassing a 44-year record. This heavy rainfall inundated streets and homes and disrupted power throughout the city.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department anticipates continued torrential rains in the country’s upper regions from August 1 to 6, driven by strong monsoon currents.
Significant flooding occurred in Lahore’s Mall Road, Ferozepur Road, Model Town, Faisal Town, Lakshmi Chowk, and Anarkali. In Tajpura, water entered residences, and Services Hospital experienced severe flooding, complicating operations for patients and staff.
The Lahore Electric Supply Company reported 288 feeder outages due to the storm, resulting in widespread electricity disruptions.
Restoration efforts are underway, with LESCO urging consumers to be patient.
Recorded rainfall varied, with Lahore Airport reaching 337 millimetres, Pani Wala Talab at 203 millimetres and other areas also reporting high levels.
