In Lahore, a downpour led to the tragic death of a 16-year-old, Nadeem Sarfaraz, who was electrocuted due to a live wire falling into rainwater. Amidst the showers, many cities in Punjab experienced pleasant weather, though it inconvenienced their residents. Lahore’s streets like Gulberg, Jail Road, and Model Town, were deluged after persistent rainfall since midnight.
Power and Infrastructure Issues
The continuous rain has disrupted power supply in numerous areas, with outages reported from places like Icchra, Township, Gulshan-e-Ravi, and Johar Town. Over 100 power feeders have tripped, and 60 have suspended electricity provision. Lahore’s heaviest rainfall was registered in Gulshan-e-Razvi at 177 millimetres.
Other regions like Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Nankana Sahib also faced rain-related challenges. In Kasur, the downpour coupled with gusty winds affected the power supply, while in Mochipua, a roof collapse at an animal shed led to the loss of seven cattle. Nankana Sahib’s roads are inundated, hampering commuters. A roof collapse in Martinpur village injured a 50-year-old woman.
The Met Office anticipates the current rainfall will persist for another 48 hours.
