Kylian Mbappe had declined the French Football League’s (LFP) mediation offer in his salary dispute with Paris Saint-Germain.
The disagreement centres around unpaid wages and bonuses, which Mbappe claims total 55 million euros ($60.6m). PSG contends that the 25-year-old agreed to forgo this amount in August 2023. The dispute includes his signing bonus due in February, his final three months of salary, and an “ethical bonus.”
Lawyers for both sides met early Wednesday after Mbappe, now with Real Madrid, escalated the matter to the LFP’s legal committee. Despite the league proposing mediation, Mbappe’s team rejected the idea during the meeting.
Mbappe’s entourage explained to AFP, “The possibility of mediation was mentioned this morning but was rejected. Mediation would be pointless to record a non-payment evident from a simple review of the player’s payslip.”
Earlier in the day, PSG had expressed approval of the mediation proposal, citing the need to respect commitments Mbappe made publicly and privately during his seven years with the club. “Paris Saint-Germain is very pleased with today’s hearing before the commission,” the club stated, adding that the commission had encouraged Mbappe to reconsider the mediation process. PSG emphasized its long-standing interest in mediation, which was highlighted during the session, which lasted two hours.
