General Asim Munir, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), reiterated on Friday that the country would unite to eradicate the threat of terrorism.
Following the deadly Peshawar blast, which left at least 100 dead, 97 police officers. The deadliest attack Pakistan has experienced in several years occurred on Monday when a suicide bomber dressed as a police officer entered the heavily guarded compound in Peshawar and blew himself up during afternoon prayers at a mosque.
According to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief said during his visit to the scene of the Police Lines blast that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police are among the bravest. They have fought as frontline forces against terrorism.
According to the ISPR, the COAS also praised the KP Police and other LEAs for their high morale and paid a heartfelt tribute to the police martyrs who gave their lives to defend their country.
The army chief concluded, “We as a nation will work together to eradicate this threat of terrorism until we achieve lasting peace, and Insha Allah, we shall succeed.”.
The 220-million-strong country has faced the threat of terrorism before and knows how to deal with it, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said during the apex committee meeting earlier today.
The prime minister declared, “The entire nation wants to know how to counter this menace and what measures can be taken to eliminate this new wave of terrorism.”.
He continued, “We will fight this threat with all the resources at our disposal.
The APEX Committee decided that the center and provinces would adopt a uniform strategy to counter terrorism and eliminate the internal facilitators of militants, according to a statement from the PM’s Office later in the day.
The meeting ordered the relevant authorities to develop a successful plan in this regard. According to the statement, the meeting also decided to eliminate all support networks for terrorists operating in the nation and to implement effective screening.
As stated in the statement, the huddle decided to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against all forms of terrorism, with national consensus ensuring that the decisions are carried out.
