In a late-night operation, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police successfully averted an attack on the Pezu police station in the Lakki Marwat district. District Police Officer (DPO) Tariq Habib reported that policemen at the Gandi Chowk checkpoint encountered six suspected terrorists around midnight.
The alert officers managed to force the attackers to flee, ensuring the safety of all police personnel. A strong police force, including an armed personal carrier (APC), was promptly deployed to the incident site.
Commendation for Police Bravery and Rising Terrorist Activities in Pakistan
DPO Habib praised the police for their professionalism and courage, especially under challenging circumstances. In recognition of their bravery, KP Inspector General Akhtar Hayat Khan plans to award certificates and rewards to the officers involved.
Pakistan has seen an increase in terrorist activities recently, particularly in KP and Balochistan, following the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s ceasefire termination in November 2022.
A report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) noted a six-year high in violence-related fatalities and injuries in 2023. Over 90% of these incidents occurred in KP and Balochistan, involving terror attacks and counter-terror operations.
