The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is set to increase the housing subsidy for its provincial assembly members amid nationwide inflation concerns.
A proposed amendment to the Salaries and Allowances Act of 1975 would introduce a monthly housing subsidy of 200,000 rupees for eligible assembly members. According to reliable sources, this subsidy would specifically benefit ministers from Peshawar who own their residences.
The amendment aims to provide financial support to these officials, reflecting the government’s initiative to accommodate its ministers during the ongoing economic adjustments.

The amendment will be presented for approval at an upcoming cabinet meeting. Muhammad Israr, Secretary of Administration of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, noted that this financial support would extend to ministers, their assistants, and advisors residing in Peshawar and its adjacent districts, particularly those facing security challenges.
This move, while addressing government officials’ living expenses, comes at a time when public scrutiny over government expenditure is intensifying, fueled by the broader economic challenges facing the citizenry.
