Deceased legendary Indian writer Khushwant Singh was reunited with his birthplace Hadali, 12km from Khusab by friend and renowned Pakistani writer Fakir Syed Aijazuddin. Singh was Born in 1915 in Hadali, Khushwant Singh and later migrated to India after partition.
He passed away on March 20 this year. Aijazuddin brought Singh’s ashes from India and placed them in a wall of his school in Hadali in a simple ceremony on Tuesday. A marble tablet was then placed on the wall, to preserve the ashes.
The tablet reads, “In memory of Sardar Khushwant Singh – 1915- 2014- A Sikh, a scholar and a son of Hadali (Punjab)”;
“This is where my roots are. I have nourished them with tears of nostalgia.”
It was reported earlier by media that a fistful of his ashes had been saved by his family in order to be taken back his Pakistani friend and placed in the soil where he was born, as he had desired.
