On Asma Shirazi’s show on Hum TV, Khawaja Asif remarked that Asifa Bhutto, when she came to take her oath in the assembly yesterday, was subjected to indecent insults by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members.
Khawaja Asif expressed deep distress over the incident, denouncing the state of politics that allows for such behaviour. Asif emphasized the need for respect, noting that Asifa is the daughter of a martyr and belongs to a family where two generations have been martyred. He criticized what he perceived as a culture promoted by PTI that tolerates such disrespect.
Asif’s comments sparked a flurry of criticism on social media, where users reminded him of his derogatory remarks towards other women in politics, including calling Shireen Mazari a “tractor trolley.” Critics questioned his consistency and sincerity, highlighting his lack of action in other instances where women were disrespected or threatened.
Social media discussions also included mentions of his reaction to other politicians’ daughters being mistreated, questioning why his outrage seemed selective.
Barrister Sidra Qayyum criticized Asif for appearing to stand up for Asifa Bhutto while ignoring similar issues affecting other women in his constituency.
Imran Riaz Khan and Tariq Mateen challenged Asif to provide evidence of his claims and questioned his motives, suggesting his reactions were politically driven.
