Police claimed to have saved the Keamari oil terminal in Karachi from near catastrophic damage on Wednesday by carrying out a controlled explosion of a bomb found attached to a parked oil tanker.
The police said that the improvised explosive device (IED) weighed around one kilogram. The magnetic device was attached to an oil tanker having a capacity of 40,000 litres of oil outside the Shell terminal.
As oil tanker drivers were already alert in the wake of Tuesday blasts, a driver of the oil tanker noticed that a device was attached to the vehicle. He immediately informed the people present around and subsequently the bomb disposal squad was called. Meanwhile, other tankers were moved around 100 metres from the bomb. The police squad placed sandbags around the device and carried out a controlled explosion to disable it.
An official said the IED comprised 800 grams of high explosive material with 200 grams of ball bearings.
Thats NATO bomb. Pakistan facilitate USM by offering passage to Afghanistan and now paying price of it.
