Karachi endured its hottest day of the year on Sunday, as temperatures reached a sweltering 37 degrees Celsius. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed that this day was not only the peak of heat for the year in the port city but also notably humid, with sea breezes disrupted and humidity levels climbing to 45 per cent.
This high humidity intensified the discomfort, making the air feel hotter than the thermometer suggested. Sunday’s temperature was 34.1 degrees, a significant rise of 2.9 degrees from Saturday’s high.
The PMD also issued warnings through its early warning system about a potential temporary heatwave in Balochistan due to northern winds; forecasting temperatures might reach up to 39 degrees Celsius on Monday.
Meanwhile, other areas in Sindh also faced intense heat on Sunday. The PMD recorded the highest temperature in Chhor at 41 degrees Celsius, with Shaheed Benazirabad, Mithi, and Mohenjo Daro each recording 40 degrees Celsius.
