Karachi’s police chief, Javed Alam Odho, announced on Monday that roads might clear of protesters by tonight, as sit-ins by a politico-religious party reached their seventh day, severely disrupting the city’s life.
He spoke as the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) continued its demonstrations over the Parachinar crisis, which has heavily impacted metropolitan traffic. At an event, the additional inspector general of police (AIG) noted ongoing dialogues with protesters, emphasizing efforts to clear the streets by this evening.
He also warned that legal measures would be taken against those obstructing roads. “Karachi residents have suffered greatly, and it’s crucial to alleviate their difficulties,” the AIG expressed.
He mentioned that discussions with the politico-religious party’s clergy had concluded that road blockages were unacceptable. “Strict action will follow against any breaches of law,” he added.
Government assurances had not eased the disruptions earlier, with ongoing limitations affecting businesses and events and causing travel delays.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab had previously voiced concerns about the sit-ins’ impact on daily life and business, emphasizing the state’s duty to intervene.
The MWM maintains sit-ins at 13 key points across Karachi, with significant closures on major roads like MA Jinnah Road and Shahrah-e-Pakistan.

Moreover, the MWM is also staging protests in Lahore, adding to the traffic challenges in both cities.
