On Saturday, Karachi police detained a trader from the Gulberg Chowrangi area for allegedly selling sacrificial goats equipped with plastic teeth through a viral social media video.
The video, which swiftly spread across platforms, depicted a customer discovering and removing what seemed to be plastic teeth from a goat. This prompted police action, leading to the trader’s arrest and the seizure of seven additional goats as part of the investigation.
During questioning, the trader, a resident of Hyderabad, revealed he had travelled to Karachi to sell his goats for the upcoming Eidul Adha celebrations. Authorities are now conducting a deeper investigation into the matter.
Eidul Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is scheduled for June 17 this year, following the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon on June 7. This significant Muslim festival commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s readiness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God, observed through the ritual slaughter of animals. The meat from these sacrifices is traditionally shared with family and the needy, remembering Prophet Ibrahim’s tradition, celebrated over three days of Eid.
