As New Year’s Eve approaches, authorities in Pakistan have imposed strict measures to ensure public safety. Pillion riding, carrying and displaying arms, aerial firing, and firecrackers have been banned in major cities nationwide.
Karachi Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Memon stated that violators of the ban will be booked under section 188 PPC by the city’s police.
The ban was implemented due to concerns over traffic congestion and public inconvenience caused by the many young people riding motorcycles and cars to popular destinations. In addition to Karachi, a ban on pillion riding will be enforced throughout the federal capital of Islamabad from 6 pm on December 31, 2022, until 2 am on January 1, 2023.
To ensure compliance with the ban, the district government has deployed Islamabad Police and 1000 Frontier Corps and formed checkpoints throughout the capital. FC soldiers will assist Islamabad police at 25 checkpoints, while e-checkpoints have been set up for security purposes and will be monitored by Safe City.
The public is urged to cooperate with law enforcement and report suspicious behavior to Pukar Rescue 15. With life and property safety a top priority, the authorities are taking all necessary measures to ensure a safe and peaceful New Year’s Eve in Pakistan.
