Karachi Traffic Police Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ahmed Nawaz recently mandated a pause on issuing challans to commuters hurrying home between 5 pm and iftar during Ramadan.
He emphasized maintaining smooth traffic flow across the city, enabling timely home arrivals for iftar. He noted that families in transit should receive warnings rather than challans.
According to Nawaz, the focus should shift to curbing one-way traffic violations, which cause major accidents and congestion. He also highlighted the need to prevent parking by rickshaws, cars, and motorcycles at turning points.
Nawaz specified that only officers equipped with body-worn cameras can issue challans. He instructed traffic personnel to avoid clustering on roads and to enforce fast lane rules on Sharea Faisal, guiding motorcyclists to the by-lane.
Additionally, he set specific times for vehicle towing, reserved for double or illegal parking situations, and cautioned against officer misconduct towards citizens.
