Social media has been abuzz regarding the alleged wrongful detainment of Professor Dr. Riaz, a respected faculty member of the Department of Chemistry at the University of Karachi. The incident has prompted widespread debate and calls for clarity among the academic community and the public.
According to reports, Dr Riaz was taken to the Bahadurabad police station without clear justification and subsequently released, sparking rumours about the complex motives behind the incident.
In response to these claims, the Bahadurabad police station was contacted for clarity. The Station House Officer (SHO) at Bahadurabad stated that the incident was part of routine police operations. The individual in question, Riaz Ahmed, son of Shamim Ahmed, had been previously marked as an absconder in case number 35/2017 under section 23-1(A) from the Artillery Maidan police station, District South. His presence was reported in the Bahadurabad area, which led to his detainment.
Upon being taken to the police station, Dr. Riaz informed the authorities that he is a professor at the University of Karachi, and the case mentioned against him had already been adjudicated by a court, resulting in his acquittal. Verification from various sources, including the judicial website, confirmed his acquittal, leading to his release in compliance with standard procedures.
The East Police spokesperson has emphasized that this case has no concealed elements, aiming to dispel any rumours or misunderstandings about the incident.
