Sindh’s Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah, directed Provincial Inspector General (IG) Riffat Mukhtar to fill 25,000 vacancies in the Sindh police force immediately.
CM Sindh led a meeting on law and order, attended by Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh, Major General Azhar Waqas, IG Mukhtar, the commissioner, and others. Shah stressed police recruitment should be merit-based and allocated Rs2 billion for 708 police stations, underscoring efficient fund use and construction uniformity.
He highlighted the need to protect the populace and their properties, especially in the riverine areas, and demanded intensified actions against street crime. Shah announced collaborations with the Punjab and Balochistan governments to tackle criminals in Sukkur and Larkana’s Kutcha areas. He urged police, Rangers, and agencies to fight narcotics in Sindh.
A plan to double Karachi’s police stations was announced to manage crime better. Following reports of 23 robberies, Shah ordered more police at crime hotspots and adopted a zero-tolerance policy towards street crime.
IG Mukhtar briefed on actions against street crimes in Karachi, while Shah called for increased police pickets and presence in Kutcha areas after kidnapping reports. Rangers DG updated on joint operations against terrorists and drug traffickers.
Shah ordered police and Rangers to eradicate street crimes and dacoits from Kutcha areas and planned a follow-up meeting. He also sought to improve Karachi’s traffic management and banned flashlights in vehicles, except for police patrol cars and authorized vehicles.
