Japanese Man Arrested for Calling Wife 100 Times in One Day

A 38-year-old man in Japan was recently detained for making 100 phone calls to his wife in a single day.

The incident began when a 31-year-old woman from Amagasaki reported her husband to the police, accusing him of making over 100 anonymous calls daily until she disconnected. Initially, these calls seemed to come from an unknown number, with the caller remaining silent until she ended the calls out of frustration.

This pattern persisted for weeks. She could not block the calls as they always came from a hidden number. On most days, she received dozens of calls, sometimes exceeding 100.

However, one evening, while playing video games on her husband’s phone, she noticed her phone never rang when they were together. This discovery led her to suspect her husband and report to the police, who then gathered evidence and arrested him.

When questioned about his behaviour, the husband claimed he made the silent calls out of love for his wife, viewing it as a way to express his affection.

While it’s not rare for married couples in Japan to live separately due to job relocations, leading occasionally to jealousy-induced stalking, this case is unique. The Amagasaki police confirmed it as the first instance of phone stalking between a couple living together.
