Senator Naseema Ehsan, affiliated with the Balochistan National Party (Mengal), suffered an attack in her apartment that led to her being confined and the abduction of her son. Simultaneously, another member of the same party, Senator Qasim Ronjho, along with his son, has been reported missing in Islamabad.
In response to these incidents, Akhtar Mengal confirmed the events via a tweet, which led to a clarification from the Islamabad Police.
The Islamabad police explained that their activities were part of a routine security audit linked to the ongoing SCO Summit, which still hosts several delegates in Islamabad. The police emphasized that their heightened security measures were precautionary and not invasive, involving no raids or harassment at the Parliament Lodges.
Further elaborating on their operations, the Islamabad Police spokesperson indicated that police officers visited several locations to address specific security concerns and complaints, ensuring all actions were strictly for verification and support purposes.
In a sceptical retort, Akhtar Mengal criticized the police’s historical reluctance to acknowledge similar operations, particularly referencing unresolved incidents involving the abduction of children from Balochistan, highlighting a persistent trust gap between local authorities and the community.
