An Indian army camp was attacked on Thursday morning by militants, according to reports from the Indian media.
According to Indian news channels, an Indian army camp near Handwara was attacked by militants. The militants attempted to enter the camp but were not allowed to do so by the Indian army. The firing allegedly took place near the headquarters of the 30 Rashtriya Rifles.
“The first stand-off firing lasted for around 20 minutes, after which search operations were being conducted. The second round of firing came as the militants again opened fire at the forces who were conducting the search operation,” an Indian newspaper said.
The latest Indian drama came more than two weeks after alleged killing of 18 Indian soldiers in a militant attack in Occupied Kashmiri.
Indian media did not report any loss of life due to the firing.
Tensions are at an all-time high between nuclear-armed neighbours India and Pakistan, after the Uri attack in which nineteen Indian soldiers were killed. Hours after the investigation, India placed blame on Pakistan, which was denied by the latter.
