Journalist and YouTuber Imran Riaz was reportedly stopped today at Islamabad Airport from boarding a flight for the Hajj pilgrimage.
Last week, Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice Aamer Farooq allowed Imran to travel to Saudi Arabia for Hajj.
The judge was informed that Imran’s name was placed on the Exit Control List (ECL) on the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) recommendation.
Following the arguments, the court granted Imran permission to travel abroad. Imran Riaz has now decided to take the matter back to court.
On March 28, the federal cabinet approved including the names of 24 individuals in the ECL. Journalists Sami Ibrahim and Imran Riaz Khan were among those listed.
This decision is part of ongoing efforts to regulate the ECL and ensure it is used effectively to address legal matters and prevent those under investigation from leaving the country.
Imran moved the LHC last year, seeking to remove his name from the ECL and Passport Control List (PCL), stating that his name was added arbitrarily and based on presumptive considerations.
