Imran Khan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, came down hard on the violence in Daska and said the time has come to stand up to Punjab police, which he called “Sharif gullus”.
“Time for us to stand up to the Sharif Gullus. If lawyers can be murdered who will be next? This has to stop now,” he said in a message posted on Twitter.
His remarks came after two lawyers, including President of Daska Bar Association, were killed in a clash with police.
Khan said that two lawyers of Insaf wing were killed and two others were wounded in Daska town of Sialkot.
“Two PTI lawyers including Rana Khalid Abbas President Daska Bar, were shot dead,” he said.
“When Model Town gullus go unpunished, then there is little to deter the police from committing murder again and again,” the PTI chief added.
He said that the killing of two lawyers were shocking and outrageous. “Punjab police have become murderers rather than protectors of citizens,” Khan added.
Protests broke out across Punjab after the killings. Lawyers took to the streets in Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and other cities.
The office of DSP in Daska was set on fire as policemen fled the scene.
