Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan, along with his wife Bushra Bibi, faced indictment on Tuesday in a case concerning an alleged unlawful marriage.
The hearing took place in Adiala Jail under the supervision of Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah and has been adjourned until January 18.
Proceedings and Controversies in Court
The case was initiated by Bushra’s ex-husband, Khawar Maneka, who accused her of serious offenses. These include marrying Khan without completing the mandatory waiting period of iddat and committing adultery. During the hearing, the court questioned Bushra Bibi’s absence, as she had left earlier citing health reasons.
Judge Qudratullah also addressed the issue of potential warrants for Bushra’s absence and highlighted that exemptions from court appearances should be for valid reasons only. The court requested a report from jail authorities on the specifics of Bushra’s arrival and departure.
As the hearing progressed, the court read the charge sheet and officially indicted Khan and his wife. During the proceedings, Imran Khan alleged that the case was politically motivated, part of a ‘London Plan.’ He questioned the timing of Maneka’s accusations, implying a politically driven agenda.

The previous hearing could not conclude with charges against the couple, leading to the adjournment and rescheduling to this date. Despite earlier assurances from the defense about Bushra’s attendance, her early departure raised questions in the court.
