Imran Khan, former prime minister, has ordered an internal military probe of retired General Qamar Javed Bajwa for his claimed “admittance” of participating in the PTI government’s overthrow.
Imran stated once more, “The PML-N, PDM (Pakistan Democratic Movement), and the establishment are all on the same side… they all removed our government, and Gen. Bajwa has admitted to the regime change since he gave his statement to a journalist regarding the reasons why the government was removed.” This was stated in an interview with Voice of America Urdu that aired today (Friday).
According to Imran, the policies of the former army leader are still in effect.
Imran was alluding to General Bajwa’s interview statements from the day before, which were eventually published in a column by Javed Chaudhry. Bajwa said in the letter that his “fault” was not intervening to defend Imran’s administration. According to another comment from him, these individuals (the PTI) posed a threat to the nation.
Imran said, “Now he has revealed that he overthrew the government because, in his opinion, the nation was in danger.
“There should be an internal army probe against him for the words that he proudly and arrogantly claimed, ‘I made the decision because the country’s conditions were such,’ as if he were an economic expert,” Imran said of the army chief’s political role.
He noted that the gap between the population and the establishment deepened, and the army should examine what transpired in light of this.
“The entire country assumed that Gen. Bajwa was responsible for overthrowing the government, but he revealed as much, dispelling the public’s mistrust and revealing that the army head was the one who ousted the government.”
Gen. Bajwa allegedly said, “We did not overturn the government of Imran Khan,” in response to Chaudhry’s question, “Why did you overthrow the government of Imran Khan?” Our sole transgression was that we were unable to save his regime. Imran pleaded with us to preserve his administration by intervening.
After reminding Bajwa that he should have done so since “you have also done this in the past,” Chaudhry asserts that Bajwa replied that it would have been the “best” course of action for him if he had been contemplating his own “benefit.”
“I sacrificed my reputation for the sake of my country; had I not done so, I would have continued to support Imran Khan and retired politely after wishing him farewell. Chaudhry cited the former army leader as adding, “Although it was difficult, I made the correct decision.
The columnist asserts that he questioned Bajwa about the appropriateness of the decision, to which Bajwa said, “Our assessment was that these individuals posed a threat to the country.” The country will perish if they remain. According to him, the former prime minister referred to the Saudi crown prince using a Punjabi term.
According to the column, one of Imran’s federal ministers informed the Saudi embassy about this, and the ambassador began having the term translated by various individuals, according to General Bajwa.
The column also cited the following comment to Gen. Bajwa: “We prevented them from making Shaukat Tarin the finance minister. But, Sir, he (Tarin) couldn’t operate his bank; he’ll destroy the economy, I warned the prime minister, but he was unconvinced.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had an 8 billion rupee corruption case against Shaukat Tarin. On the other hand, the prime minister asked us to wind up this case. Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed could have Shaukat Tarin’s NAB case dismissed because we were required to cooperate with the FATF and IMF.
The former army commander was quoted as stating, “I received a call from the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Reza Baqir, who was quite concerned. He said that Shaukat Tarin had overheated the economy, that the dollar reserves were fast declining, and that “we require your help.”
“Consequently, we were required to meet with the prime minister, who was accompanied by Reza Baqir, Shaukat Tarin, Hammad Azhar, and Asad Umar. I questioned the prime minister, “Sir, why are you collecting a 53% customs tax?” Unfortunately, this is not the case. “We will get caught,” he (Imran) forewarned before adding, “but this is true for the best. In response to the increasing tax collection, I stated, “Sir, you are collecting rupees by shipping dollars outside.” This cannot be the nation’s course of action. Shaukat Tarin must be stopped, or else we will lose.
Reza Baqir and the prime minister supported this, but no action was taken. Asad Umar congratulated me after the meeting, saying, “You are correct. Unfortunately, we made a wrong turn and got lost. We should have taken you for advice in the past. You may inquire with Asad Umar if anything I mention is inaccurate.
