The Islamabad High Court has suspended the sentences of Imran Khan and Shah Mehmood Qureshi in the cipher case, granting them relief from their previously awarded punishments.
In January, former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were each sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with the cipher case. They were found guilty of disclosing the contents of a confidential diplomatic cable sent by Pakistan’s ambassador in Washington to the government in Islamabad.
The case centres on the exposure of a classified communication sent in 2022. The communication reportedly detailed a meeting between the Pakistani envoy and US officials, during which discussions allegedly focused on the US officials’ desire to remove Imran Khan from office.
