The Department of Boards and Universities in Sindh has collaborated with the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) to administer a mandatory test for key educational board positions across the province, including chairman, controller, secretary, and audit officer.
Abbas Baloch, Secretary of Boards and Universities, has forwarded a summary to Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. On November 27, 2023, a proposal concerning filling various positions in the education boards reached the Chief Minister’s office. The Chief Minister approved a search committee’s advertisement and selection of candidates for these vacancies.
After advertising these positions, multiple legal challenges to the appointment process arose, leading to petitions in the Sindh High Court (SHC). However, the court dismissed the injunction in HCA 47/2024. It authorized the Department of Boards and Universities to continue the appointment process through the search committee, as outlined in the Department of Boards and Universities Search Committee Act 2022.
The act enables the efficient selection of candidates via a rigorous process managed jointly by IBA Karachi and the search committee.
The chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission disclosed that due to the large number of applicants—over 200—the commission has decided to conduct a test through IBA Karachi. This will ensure that only the most qualified candidates proceed to the interview stage.
