HMD has confirmed the launch of its Barbie-themed flip phone, which is set for August 28. The announcement came after the Finnish company introduced the concept at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February.
The distinctive phone features the signature pink of Barbie dolls and will operate on S30+ or KaiOS.
The upcoming Barbie phone exemplifies a nostalgia-infused design with modern technology, catering to both gadget lovers and Barbie enthusiasts. HMD, traditionally linked with the Nokia brand, revealed this unique collaboration with toy manufacturer Mattel earlier this year, promising a launch initially slated for July but now confirmed for late August.
The phone will maintain a classic flip design, aligning with HMD’s approach towards promoting digital detox by limiting access to extensive social media applications. This move is part of a broader strategy to diversify HMD’s offerings, as evidenced by other recent launches like the HMD Crest and Crest Max 5G in India and the HMD Skyline in Europe, which features advanced specifications such as the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC and a 108-megapixel camera setup.
As the launch date approaches, potential buyers can register on HMD’s website to receive updates on availability, pricing, and features. This release marks another significant step for HMD in linking classic brands with contemporary mobile technology.
