Hina Parvez Butt, a member of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN), has become the focal point of controversy due to her misunderstanding of social media terminology related to an interview with Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The confusion arose from her misinterpretation of the term “Paid” displayed in an exclusive interview by Mehdi Raza with Imran Khan, hosted on Zeteo.
Hina Parvez Butt mistakenly suggested on Twitter that the “Paid” label indicated that Imran Khan had been compensated for the interview. However, this label was intended to signify that the content was accessible only to paid subscribers of Zeteo.
Hina’s misinterpretation led to backlash on social media, with users clarifying that the term referred to the content’s subscription model, not a payment to the interviewee.
Journalist Mehdi Hassan, who conducted the interview, responded to Butt’s claims by emphasizing the absurdity of the suggestion that a payment to Khan would be openly advertised on the platform. He humorously noted that if such a conspiracy were true, it would be unlikely for the organizers to openly label the interview as “Paid.”
In a follow-up tweet, Hassan reiterated the misunderstanding, highlighting the lack of logic in Butt’s assumption and pointing out the implausibility of such a scenario.
The situation has sparked considerable discussion and mockery on social media, with many highlighting Butt’s error as an example of misinformation and misunderstanding in political discourse. This incident underscores the importance of understanding digital and media literacy, especially for public figures whose statements can influence public opinion and lead to widespread misinformation.
