The federal government plans to convene a joint session of Parliament on August 28. It has notified members of the National Assembly and Senate and directed them to ensure their presence.
Sources reveal that a constitutional amendment draft aimed at blocking Justice Mansoor Ali Shah from becoming the Chief Justice is ready but was not introduced in the Assembly due to the absence of both the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker. The government soon intends to push this amendment, as it opposes Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s appointment as Chief Justice, reports Aizaz Syed.
The government is actively preventing Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s potential ascension to the Chief Justice. This issue is slated for discussion in the upcoming Assembly session on Monday, and journalist Aizaz Syed will break this significant news.
Additionally, the government has proposed a judicial package to Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, extending his tenure by three years. However, Justice Shah believes that any such extension should apply post-2032 for Justice Shahid Waheed, given that career decisions for all individuals elevated to the Supreme Court are already finalized.
Justice Shah has expressed concerns that implementing such a package now would amount to bribery. The government is currently attempting to secure a commitment from Justice Mansoor Ali Shah to refrain from intervening in the ongoing projects through the tribunal or any other means.
