To streamline administrative tasks and ensure essential document access, the government considers birth registration at birth, eliminating later visits to union council offices for certificates.
A specialized committee has been established to simplify the registration process right after birth. It includes key officials from local and health departments, the Punjab Information Technology Board, the National Database and Registration Authority, and the Punjab representative of the National Commission on the Rights of the Child.
At the Civil Secretariat, the meeting led by Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman and NCRC Chairperson Senator Ayesha Raza Farooq appointed the Secretary of Implementation and Coordination as the focal point for coordination. Chief Secretary Zaman highlighted the importance of birth registration for children’s rights and access to services, promising to ease the process in Punjab and support the NCRC.
Senator Farooq labelled birth registration as a child’s basic right, noting Pakistan’s low rates and emphasizing collaboration to enhance awareness and provide needed services. Officials from relevant departments and organizations attended the meeting.
