Alphabet’s Google is advancing in artificial intelligence technology with a new project aimed at automating interactions within a web browser to perform tasks like research and shopping.
According to a report by The Information, the technology, currently under development and known as Project Jarvis, is expected to be showcased as early as December alongside the release of Google’s next-generation Gemini large language model.
The initiative is part of a broader trend in which companies such as Microsoft-backed OpenAI explore using models to navigate the web autonomously.
Reuters reported in July that OpenAI aims to utilize what it refers to as a “CUA,” or computer-using agent, to conduct research and act upon the information gathered autonomously.
Similarly, Google and Anthropic are pushing the boundaries by developing software that enables direct interaction with a user’s computer or browser, taking the agent concept further in practical applications.
Google has not responded to requests for comments regarding these developments.
