Google Chrome is set to enhance user experience with three new AI-powered features to simplify tab management. This follows Google’s recent introduction of a text-to-speech feature that lets users easily listen to articles and web pages.
On Tuesday, Google announced that these new features, designed to help users navigate and organize tabs more efficiently, are being integrated into Chrome for iOS and other platforms. This rollout is part of Google’s ongoing effort to improve Chrome’s usability, which has seen various upgrades over the past year, including tab grouping and management enhancements.
The first of these new features, exclusive to Chrome for iOS, extends the tab group functionality previously available on Android and desktop versions. It allows users to create groups of related tabs under a customizable name and colour, making them easier to identify and organize. Future updates will enable users to save and sync their tab groups across all devices, facilitating seamless access, whether on mobile or desktop.
Additionally, Chrome will soon make switching devices more convenient. For instance, users researching a restaurant on their phone can move to a desktop and find their tab group automatically synced, ready for further exploration. This feature requires logging into the same Google account on both devices.
The third innovation involves an experimental feature where AI suggests revisiting web pages, based on the user’s history across devices. This aims to reduce the need for bookmarking or remembering URLs, although Google has not detailed how the AI will prioritize these suggestions.
These developments reflect Google’s commitment to leveraging AI to enhance browser functionality, making it easier for users to manage their online activities efficiently.
