Germany has introduced the Chancenkarte visa, or “Opportunity Card,” a new work visa designed to facilitate the immigration of non-EU nationals to Berlin and expand opportunities for residency and citizenship.
The German government reforms on Thursday now permit immigrants and citizens to have dual nationality, which allows individuals to retain their original citizenship while acquiring German nationality and under Chancenkarte visa, or “Opportunity Card, non-EU nationals to move to Germany for better opportunities.
The German governments reforms also extend rights to non-German long-term residents and streamline the naturalization process. Previously, residency requirements for citizenship eligibility were set at eight years; the updated legislation reduces this period to five years.
According to a report by Schengen News, individuals demonstrating exceptional integration efforts, including fluency in German, may qualify for naturalization in just three years.
